A Thin Line

Recently MTV has launched a new campaign against digital abuse. At first I hadn't even heard of digital abuse and had no idea what it was. I'm sure some of you have seen these commercials. One is where a young boy is being tattoo'ed with hateful words that he is called over text messages. I think this one really shows teens how what you say really sticks with a person. Another one I see is about "sexting". It hopes to bring awareness to the seriousness of sending indecent pictures and messages. This commercial shows an entire high school seeing exposed pictures that a girl had sent a boy she was talking to. At first I thought this campaign was rather weak. I thought it was doing a good effort to make real the pain that someone goes through from digital abuse by connecting the lasting effects of being made fun like the pain of getting a permanent tattoo. I think their tactics are too literal and they should go deeper into the emotions of someone during digital abuse. Maybe if the boy getting tattooed was saying how he really felt would be the hard facts that would make some teens watching pay closer attention. Bringing awareness to digital abuse is a important thing and MTV was right in being the first to try to make a change.

Here is the website which actually has a lot of easy ways to get involved!
